Dog racing has been around awhile, and it's a great form of entertainment. Did you know that in the early days of dog racing, monkeys rode on top of the dogs like jockeys? Now that's entertainment! From a "betting to make a profit stand point" dog racing is a bad bet. The main downside is the horrendous "takeout" at the dog track. This "takeout" can range anywhere from
15% for win, place, and show to 30% for the exotics (trifectas, superfectas etc.). A 30% "takeout" means that for every dollar you bet the track takes 30 cents. It is just not possible for the everyday bettor to overcome this form of extortion.
But if you have a few dollars to throw away, a day at the dog track isn't a bad way to go.
