Metal Detecting: How to Find the Good Stuff

By Silas Twist

When you go metal detecting do you spend 3 or 4 hours searching in a park or on school grounds, only to find 35 cents in coins. If this is ok and you only metal detect to get out and get some exercise, then you really don't need to read further.

But if you are tired of only finding a few modern era coins, and a lot of junk, (tin foil, bottle caps, etc.) then I have a tip which will guarantee you will find more valuable and interesting items the next time you go metal detecting.
The magic word is "research". Instead of spending 4 hours looking in random spots hoping to get lucky, why not spend 2 hours at the local historic society and then 2 hours searching an area that actually has potential for some great finds.
