Why Dice Control Won’t Help You Win At Craps

By Silas Twist
Craps is an old game, an exciting game and one that for some reason draws the traveling medicine show crowd.

There is more snake oil, superstition and misinformation surrounding the game of craps than any other casino game. Dice control is one myth that some believe will give them an advantage over the house or at least take the house edge away.

Dice control is the belief that it is possible to hold and release the dice in a certain way resulting in manipulating the numbers to the players' advantage. Now this sounds great and yes, it is very possible to do this but not at a casino.

Casinos have rules and one rule is when throwing the dice they must bounce on the table at least 3 times (this ensures a random roll) preferably hitting the back of the table.

As one pit boss so eloquently put it when a player asked him if he could hold and roll the dice in a certain way "You give me three bounces and I don't care if you rub them on your nuts." So no matter how you hold the dice, no matter how much you practice dice control, if they do not bounce on the table at least three times you will hear this common dice table phrase, "No Roll!"
